I've found a lot of interesting fun facts in a Nintendo Power calendar for 2010. All of the facts in the book are from the earlier and current years. Here are a few:

1) In the Wii version of the Punch-Out!! video game, Donkey Kong makes a surprising cameo in the bonus Last Stand mode, right after clearing the Title Defense mode. He offers a gamer an even greater challenge with his punches and monkey antics.

2) In its NES version, the Punch-Out!! scene where Mac jogs through the streets of New York with Doc is one of the defining images of the 8-bit generation.

3) Midna and Link (from the game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) are considered as, according from the calendar book, one of gaming's most unique and memorable friendships. They're willing to die for each other by the time they reach the end of the final dungeon of the game.

4) At the Special Zone section of the Super Mario World game, a player can read out the phrase "You are a super player!!" in the screen as he/she sprints in the area.

5) In the release of 2008's Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo' Mario and Sega's Sonic are brought in the game to battle each other. It's a reference of Nintendo and Sega's war in the 16-bit era.

6) In its 22 years after its debut on NES, the most reviled villains of Kid Icarus are the Eggplant Wizards. Oddly enough, when the process where Icarus is turned himself into an eggplant and must dodge various monster-filled rooms to reach a hospital is both endearing and horribly irritating.
